At the Double R Ranch we only have a limited amount of pasture,
so the animals we select for our foundation stock must be of excellent quality and proven genetics. Large framed does with
good udders and teats, nice toplines and strong pasterns are characteristics we always look for. Bad mothering tendancies
or chronic veterinary care animals are cull factors for us. We also don't believe in trying to "breed out" undesireable traits
from does with different bucks and our experience with that has been less than acceptable. Starting a breeding program
with superior animals always enhances the chances of getting a better result from your breeding selections. We wasted
2 years learning that lesson and are far happier now for changing direction with our breeding program.
We really enjoy the red and paint animals that we have and we will be moving towards more of the colored
genetics. Our goal is to have approximately 30% of our herd in colored and paint does.
Our breeding program has been successful crossing the FSE, Eggs
and RRD genetics and we'll continue in that direction. Genetics from Ennobled bloodlines such as Rambo, Mojo, Magnum,
Sumo, Eggsfile, RRD POW, Cannon, HC Harley and Eggs Blake are prominant in our herd. We also have T4
Scorpio, Red Ryder and Almost Perfect 10 genetics as well for our colored program.
In addition to these does, we will also have kids in 2007/2008 from our Magnum daughter Ash Creek
Prissy and our RRD S889 POW daughter Nirvana.
